TB DOTS Program

Fighting TB Face to Face

Tubeculosis is a global scourge. In the Philippines, we face it head on by actively monitoring and completing treatment. The Directly Observed Treatment is an effective strategy in fighting the disease. This program esures success.

The PGH TB program started in January 1998 with an initial $100,000 grant. In August 2002, the PGH Pediatrics DOTs program began, the only one of its kind in the Philippines. At the start there were 5 patients treated per month for a total of 20 patients a year . All Lab work and X-RAY follow-up were done at PGH for free. On October 26, 2008, due to lack of funding, labs and chest Xrays are no longer gratis. UPMASA’s Washington DC- Baltimore chapter leads this program.
